With only four campsites and only one vault toilet, Tamihi Rapids Recreation Site on the south bank of the Chilliwack River is a quintessential "primitive" campground. But somehow, despite the fact that all of the campsites are within earshot of the main road (Chilliwack Lake Road), the campground has a distinct charm lent by the whitewater flow of the river, and it is a popular overnight spot for kayakers for obvious reasons.
From the campground you'll notice the vertical white slalom gates, slung like backyard patio lights, across the river. Used for kayaking competitions, the Tamihi Rapids were host to Canada's National Whitewater Kayaking Championships in 2011 and 2015.
Note: Tamihi Rapids Recreation Site Campground is open year round, but it does not provide potable water. If water is needed, it can be obtained at neighboring Tamihi Creek East Recreation Site Campground.
