While this isn’t the most popular spot in Cultus Lake Provincial Park to enjoy a picnic spread or launch your stand-up paddle board, you might enjoy a bit more solitude than if you were to make a day stop at one of the nearby campgrounds. What Spring Bay lacks in size, it certainly makes up for in views—vistas of the rolling, forested mountains reflected into the warm freshwater lake delight around every turn.
The wide, gently sloping pebbled beach is excellent for swimming, though it’s advised that you bring along water shoes to protect your feet. Spring Bay is also a great spot for launching watercraft, and the nearby community of Cultus Lake offers a wealth of amenities including canoe, boat, jet ski, and stand-up paddle board rentals. A quick trip to town could cost hours, though, if you’re apt to be enticed by miniature golf, restaurants, stables, boutique shopping, bumper boats, two golf courses, and a popular waterpark.
If you prefer quiet lakeside lounging to in-town activities, you could be lucky enough to see some of the wide variety of wildlife that calls the park home. Blacktail deer abound, as do osprey, Steller’s jay, black-capped chickadee, and bats in the summer months. Coyote, beaver, and bobcats are more difficult to spot, but they are certainly present. Please Leave No Trace and be extra cautious about food storage—each year, several bears are put down after getting into visitors’ food.
