Perhaps one of the easiest ways to access the alpine and high mountain wilderness that encompasses the northern Rocky Mountains is the Nonda Creek Corridor motorized route. This gravel access road leads up to a stunning viewpoint atop a radio tower site, and it sits on the eastern fringe of Muncho Lake Provincial Park. The area is a popular destination for photographers because of the fantastic views, great light, and the fact that one does not have to veer far from the vehicle to access the rugged and beautiful landscapes of the Muskwa-Kechika Management area.

The full-sized four-wheel drive route is 25 kilometers in length, and it can be accessed via the Alaska Highway at mile 409. Traveling north on the Alaska Highway, turn right less than 1 kilometer past the Muncho Lake Provincial Park entrance sign. A short distance from the entrance, there will be a wooden Bailey-style bridge that crosses the Toad River to ensure you are on the right path. Stay right after coming upon a split in the road. The route continues to travel northward past a few low-lying areas, a series of small lakes, and it occasionally parallels Nonda Creek before ascending up into the valley ahead.

The trail will lead up a series of switchbacks as it starts the final ascent to the top of a viewpoint overlooking Nonda Peak and the Toad River Valley below. High clearance or four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended because the road can become fairly rough with little room for turning around. RV or trailer traffic is not advised.

From the radio tower viewpoint there is great potential for alpine hiking, wildflower viewing, or spotting stone sheep and other wildlife grazing in the hillsides and valleys below.
