The District of North Vancouver and the North Shore Mountain Bike Association have started to build climbing trails on all of the local mountains, giving mountain bikers new routes to get to the top of their favorite trails. Previously, accessing trailheads involved a pedal up the fire road that wasn't too difficult but could be long and boring (depending on the destination). With the introduction of these trails, the route starts and finishes where you park, and it is more challenging.
No Quarter, the climbing trail, is in the middle of construction. It is being built in stages and will be finished by summer 2016. At each stage of completion the trail has been linked to other trails to create a loop that is open for use. There is a small, three-car parking lot at the trailhead, and parking on the road is also allowed. The trail climbs right from there. Soft, smooth dirt has been placed and packed in to create a winding switchback trail to take you up. The route crosses other trails, but it is clearly marked with trail posts. The bottom and top of the climb are the easiest sections, and a difficult middle section will be improved after summer 2015. At the current build stage No Quarter connects onto Executioner via a new climbing connector route that completes the loop.
The decent starting at Executioner is technical and steep in sections and leads to Dreamweaver, which is a little less gnarly and runs a little faster with more flow. It also crosses wooden bridges and passes cascading waterfalls. The trail ends at Braemar Road, and a short 50-meter pedal to the left takes you back to the trailhead and completes the loop.
