Eagle Bluffs Hike, Cypress Mountain

Cypress Mountain in West Vancouver is home to many trails and hikes, and Eagle Bluffs is one of the best. You'll be rewarded with multiple viewpoints, all with amazing perspectives looking down onto Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, or west toward Bowen Island and the Sunshine Coast.

You'll start the hike at the Cypress Day Lodge walking toward the chair lifts and the wooden sign containing information about the trails around the area. From there you'll follow the signs for Black Mountain, which will eventually lead you to Eagle Bluffs. Follow the trail for a few minutes before taking a left toward Black Mountain at the fork. A series of switchbacks and a fairly steep climb follows; this part of the trail is well maintained and even has rock steps built in at some points. Keep an eye out for wildlife, as black bears are not uncommon around this area. Eventually you'll end up at another fork with options for Eagle Bluffs to the left or Cabin Lake to the right. The trails eventually intersect, making a nice loop that includes the lake. From here the terrain climbs up and down for a few kilometers, passing many small lakes until you reach the Eagle Bluffs lookout. 

As you break through the trees you'll be instantly greeted by a breathtaking view, providing there's good visibility. If the lookout is crowded, try exploring a small area below the main bluff. And if you can time this hike for sunset, you won't be disappointed, just remember to pack a flashlight and get down before the gates close.
