Walker Pass to Morris Peak is a 10.4-mile out-and-back route that traverses a section of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) to reach the summit of Morris Peak (7,215 feet). Starting from the Walker Pass Campground located west of Ridgecrest, CA, this journey takes you into the Southern Sierra Nevada mountain range. It boasts expansive views along a well-graded single-track trail that leads to a short scramble to the summit. While no ropes are required and the route is generally easy to navigate, a brief section along an unmaintained trail to the peak's top means this route is best suited for experienced hikers comfortable with off-trail scrambling. The area is excellent for camping, backpacking, hiking, and trail running.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION
The adventure begins at Walker Pass Campground, located off Highway 178. The area offers parking and is a well-known PCT access point. The initial segment of the trail gently ascends through high desert terrain, sprinkled with Joshua trees and yucca plants, before reaching the forested areas higher up.

As the trail climbs, the vegetation transitions from desert scrub to a mix of pinyon pine and juniper woodlands, and finally into the subalpine zone as you near the peak. Hikers will be rewarded with sweeping views of the Owens Peak Wilderness to the east and the vast expanse of the Sierra crest to the west.

MORRIS PEAK

Morris Peak, standing at 7,215 feet, is a lesser-known summit compared to its towering neighbors, yet offers equally stunning 360-degree panoramic views. From the top, hikers can enjoy the rugged contours of the surrounding landscape, including the distinct shape of nearby Owens Peak.

Morris Peak is listed in the Sierra Club's Hundred Peaks Section and the Angeles Chapter Comprehensive Combo list, underscoring its significance within the hiking community.

WATER

Natural water sources along this section can be scarce, especially later in the season. Carry sufficient water and a filter or purification tablets for any untreated sources.
