Sitting on the north shore of Lake Isabella between the towns of Lake Isabella and Kernville is the large Tillie Creek Campground.
At 159 sites, Tillie Creek contains RV pull through sites, normal car sites, and group areas. What the campground does not have is electric hook up sites or showers.
Set beside the Lake Isabella basin, the campground feels much more exposed to the area's summer heat than the string of campgrounds north of Kernville along the upper Kern River. But its location also offers boating access and a walking path to the lake (as the lake level recedes, this can be a lengthy walk).
Campers are asked to self pay upon entering. Camp amenities include a playground, a fish cleaning station available for a fee, and an amphithter that offers interpretive programs on Saturday nights throughout the summer season.
Sites are basic, with each site having a table and fire pit. Water spigots are placed throughout the campground, as are vault toilets.
The group campgrounds are set apart from the main camping area. Group sites vary in capacity, with one site holding up to 60 campers ($243 nightly), one site holding up to 80 campers ($324), and one site that holds up to 150 campers ($608 nightly).
Tillie Creek Campground is open year round and receives fair cell coverage.
