This adventure describes a 35.6 mile point-to-point route from South Lake/Bishop Pass Trail to Muir Hut exiting at Lamarck Pass to the North Lake Trailhead. This journey offers hikers an exquisite traverse through the heart of the Sierra Nevada. Adventurers will experience the rugged beauty of the High Sierra, showcasing alpine lakes, towering peaks, and verdant valleys that define this iconic landscape.

The adventure begins at South Lake, where the Bishop Pass Trailhead serves as the gateway to the backcountry. Hikers will navigate through dense forests, ascending towards the stark, open vistas near Bishop Pass. Early segments of the trail climb steadily, offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and the undisturbed wilderness of the John Muir Wilderness.

Joining the PCT, the path weaves through the Sierra's core, with the trail's high points offering unrivaled views of the expansive High Sierra. Take a break in the Muir Hut Shelter, a common rest spot for hikers amidst several epic journeys including the PCT, JMT, North Lake/South Lake Loop, Sierra High Route, and more.

Exiting the PCT at Lamarck Pass, the descent towards North Lake Trailhead is nothing short of spectacular. This portion of the trail challenges hikers with its sharp descents and rugged terrain, culminating in a serene finale as the path meanders back to civilization at North Lake.

DIFFICULTY AND PREPARATION
This route is strenuous and recommended for experienced hikers. Preparation should include acclimatization to high altitude, securing necessary permits, and ensuring physical readiness for the trail's demanding nature. Water sources are seasonal, and weather can change rapidly, making gear selection crucial for safety and comfort.

FLORA AND FAUNA
The route is a biodiversity hotspot, home to a range of wildlife from mule deer to alpine chipmunks, and flora including wildflowers and ancient bristlecone pines. Hikers are urged to practice Leave No Trace principles to preserve the area's natural beauty.
