Sherwins Winter Trail is a popular area for winter recreation. From the large parking area you’ll find lots of people taking a short stroll or walking their dogs. A popular sledding hill is located just to the left. Backcountry skiers often start a trek from here. And snowmobilers can be seen zooming around the area.

Sherwins Winter Trail is supposedly groomed, but it has yet to be this winter. Either way, the trail extends for up to 1.8 miles one way. You’ll gain a bit of elevation along the way, but nothing too strenuous.

If not groomed, the trail route is still obvious and follows the natural bottom of the valley. You’ll finally crest a small hill, then carry on until you feel you’ve reached a good turnaround point. I’d recommend going until you get a great view of Mammoth Rock and Mammoth Mountain.

When satisfied, return the way you came and retrace your steps back to the parking lot.
