Sherwin’s Vista is a stunning viewpoint located in Mammoth Lakes, California. It cannot be accessed by vehicle, but rather by hiking or biking the paved pathway that leads here. From the vista you’ll have stunning views of the Long Valley Caldera, the White Mountains, and the Sherwins (Sierra Nevada).
There is a picnic table and several benches at the vista point, as well as trash cans.
Informative plaques tell of the history of the area. Original inhabitants included the Nüümü or Paiute people that came here during summer to hunt, harvest seeds, or gather willow branches. Early explorers came to the area in the mid 1800s, and eventually the lure of gold brought miners to the area.
The plaques also tell of the geological history of the area, including the eruption about 760,000 years ago that formed the Long Valley Caldera.
Enjoy your time at Sherwin’s Vista!
