The Prewett Point Trail is an easy 1 mile loop trail that begins and ends at the West Pinnacles Visitor Center inside Pinnacles National Park.
Beginning at the back of the Visitor Center building, the trail follows a graded paved and crushed rock path to a fork with a bench. The trail is handicapped accessible to this point. Beyond the fork, the trail becomes a hard packed dirt path with slightly more aggressive grades that loops around a hilltop. Along the way, views of some of the dramatic Pinnacles rock formations dominate the skyline.
At the trail's high point, a covered bench with interpretive signs offers hikers a chance to take in the natural history of these geologic megaliths. There is also a signed fork with the Jawbone Trail along the loop path.
As the easiest trail in this portion of the park, and with its proximity to the Visitor Center building, Prewett Point tends to be one of the park's busiest paths, and is quite likely you'll cross paths with other trail users. The benefit of its location is that there are drinking fountains, bathrooms and knowledgable park rangers located at the trailhead.
The trail lies within Pinnacles National Park and is subject to all park rules, entry fees and operating hours. The park's west gate is open daily from 7:30am to 8pm.
