Live Oak Grove Campground is one of several camping areas inside Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park, making it a great cental camp spot for the park's numerous trails and access to the South Orange County backcountry.
While each of the campgrounds tends to be organized for its own type of user, Live Oak Grove Campground is geared toward those looking for a tent or car campground without any types of hook ups.
Set in a chaparral landscape beside the sheer walls of scenic Bell Canyon, Live Oak Grove Campground's sites each contain picnic benches, and fire pits with grills. There is a single bathroom facility, however as of 2022, for the past several years water issues have made this a dry campground with no drinking water available and outhouses having replaced bathroom facilities.
A grove of live oak trees provides shade for most of the camp sites, and gives the campground a breezy ambiance with the sound of wind blowing from the canyon and through the oak canopy. While there is little divide between neighboring sites, the spacious size of the campgrounds ensures that at all but the busiest seasons, campers will have no problem finding space away from their nearest neighbors.
Reservations are available via the Orange County Parks website, along with a park map which can be viewed here.
Without a timeline on when water will be available again, campers should plan on water being unavailable at the park and campground, and should bring all of their water with them.
