Hungry Gulch Campground sits on a low mountainside overlooking Lake Isabella in the Sequoia National Forest.
With 78 sites, the main feature of Hungry Gulch is that most of the sites are beneath the tree coverage and spots tend to have lots of shade. All sites are basic, containing a table and fire pit. Sites feel as if they are placed haphazardly, almost like one large group camp area separated by a few paved roads. Campers are treated to the sound of the pine trees rustling in the wind throughout the campground.
The campground is also subject to the lay of its landscape, and the vast majority of camp sites sit on uneven ground.
The campground has water and bathroom facilities with flush toilets, though there are no electrical or water hook ups at sites. There are a couple pull through sites, though again, due to the general slope within the campground, those with RVs might want to head across Wofford Heights Blvd to Boulder Gulch Campground which tends to have more level areas.
The Isabella Peak trailhead is located near the entrance station to the campground and makes a medium 2.5 mile round trip hike.
Campers can self pay at the entrance station. Any bookings that include a holiday weekend must include a minimum of three nights booking on the reservation.
Hungry Gulch Campground is open from around mid-May through mid-September.
