Gold Ledge Campground is one of a string of Forest Service campgrounds along Mountain Highway 99 upstream from Lake Isabella.
Set about 10.2 miles from the town of Kernville, the campground has 37 basic sites on hardpacked and mostly shadeless gravel set along a small winding gravel loop road. Each site has a fire pit and picnic bench.
Sites are reservable on Recreation.gov. While many campgrounds sit alongside this stretch of road, what sets Gold Ledge apart is a deep swimming hole immediately beside the campground. A small section of sand beach is often filled with visitors during the summer season, and across the water is a boulder that makes a 16' jumping ledge. Fishing is also permitted from the rivershore.
Water is available from several spigots located throughout the campground, and there are a couple vault toilet buildings.
Campers are asked to self pay upon entering. There is a camp host onsite.
Gold Ledge Campground is typically open from around May 15th-September 15th.
There are no showers available, and campers should be aware of the possible presence of poison oak in the brush.
The nearest gas, groceries and gear sales and rentals is in the town of Kernville 10 miles south.
Those looking for day use parking for the swimming hole will find a couple spots in the gravel pull out just outside the entrance gate.
