Bullfrog Lake is one of the most scenic lakes in the Kearsarge Basin and can be reached via this 14-mile out-and-back route located just outside of Independence, California.  It features a solid climb through Inyo National Forest with stunning vistas amidst pristine nature.

Starting from Onion Valley, the Kearsarge Pass Trail climbs through pine forest, passes several alpine lakes, and leads to the top of Kearsarge Pass (11,700’) and into Kings Canyon National Park. The Bullfrog Lake Trail is located on the west side of Kearsarge Pass and provides an alternate to a section of the Kearsarge Pass Trail

Descend Kearsarge Pass and turn left at the Bullfrog Lake Trail junction. The trail leads to  Kearsarge Lakes Trail, passes above Bullfrog Lake, and connects with the Pacific Crest Trail / John Muir Trail.  The shores of Bullfrog Lake are certainly worth a visit, as it is one of the most scenic lakes in the Kearsarge Basin.
