Bowman Campground sits near the northeast section of Bowman Lake.
Set beneath the canopy of dense conifer trees, the camp sites are spread out, with double tracks heading to each. As a basic campground, sites each contains a fire pit, bear-proof food locker and a picnic table. The campground runs down a dirt slope into the lake, though the rule here is for car top boat launch only.
A single vault toilet building serves the campground, and campers must pack out their own trash. The campground is very remote, with zero cel service. Bowman Lake is a large lake, with emerald coves that are great for swimming.
All sites are available on a first come, first serve basis, with no fees and no reservations available. The campground tends to fill up during holidays and weekends throughout the summer. Winter conditions often make the rough roads in impassable until as late as July. There is no water available at the Bowman Campground.
Accessing the campground requires a 7 mile drive down a rough gravel road. High clearance is necessary, 4WD is strongly recommended. The road has many tight curves and narrow sections where cars must be able to back up in order to pass.
Campers can check with the Nevada Irrigation District who manages the campground at 530-265-5302 to inquire about the campground's open status.
