The canals around Bishop offer many opportunities to enjoy a leisurely walk, run, or bicycle ride while enjoying the scenic beauty of the area. One option for a canal hike is the Southern Loop of the Bishop Creek Canal.

This hike can be accessed by starting off Warm Springs Road. It makes a large loop that is a little over 4 miles. This loop can also be added to the Bishop Creek Canal hike that is typically started from Line Street, turning that hike from 3 miles to 7 miles.

If starting from Warm Springs Road you’ll walk north along the dirt road that parallels the canal. Great views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains are to be had along this section.

Continue until reaching a gravel crossroad - Gus Cashbaugh Lane. Turn right and follow the road until you come to another 4 way junction. Turn right again.

Continue heading south along this dirt road as it parallels a smaller waterway.

You’ll eventually reach Warm Springs Road. Turn right one last time. Continue along the paved road (the least enjoyable stretch of this hike, but still not bad!) until you reach your vehicle and where you began the loop.
