Gardner Canyon to Madera Canyon

Gardner Canyon to Madera Canyon is a 32-mile route located within the Coronado National Forest. This route offers an unforgettable adventure through diverse landscapes, culminating in panoramic views from the highest peak in the Santa Rita Mountains.

The journey begins at the Gardner Canyon Trailhead, where hikers set off through oak woodlands and rolling hills, gradually ascending into the more rugged terrain of the Santa Rita Mountains. The path weaves through dense forests of ponderosa pine and Douglas fir, with the occasional clearing offering stunning views of the surrounding wilderness.

As the trail approaches Mount Wrightson, the vegetation thins, and the landscape opens up to reveal rocky outcrops and sweeping vistas. The climb to the summit is strenuous but rewards hikers with 360-degree views that stretch across southern Arizona and into Mexico on clear days.

After descending from the peak, the trail continues towards Madera Canyon, known for its lush riparian area and abundant birdlife. Hikers can enjoy the soothing sounds of running water and the cool shade provided by towering trees before beginning the return journey to Gardner Canyon.
