With much anticipation, we're excited to announce the award and prize winners from the Summer 2014 season. In fact, we added over 500 adventures over the summer, an incredible accomplishment in and of itself. Here we extend thanks to those most active in our community for making Outdoor Project what it is. Most of the content found on Outdoor Project has been published with the help and hard work of our Contributors. These individuals are experienced photographers, videographers, writers, and outdoor adventurers who have elected to share their expertise with us to help make Outdoor Project the best resource for outdoor adventure. In return they take part in the Contributor Rewards Program, and every season (summer and winter) we acknowledge their hard work and efforts.
By Justin Michael. PRIZE: $200 REI Gift Card. Submission was selected because of the rich storytelling narrative of the photography and writing. Writing is extremely informative and thorough. Adventure expands Outdoor Project's geographic horizons, is novel, and extremely inspirational.
By Zachary Smith. PRIZE: $50 REI Gift Card + $50 Pro Photo Supply Gift Card. Submission was selected for the in-depth and rich photo-editorial documentation in a geographic region which is so often overlooked. With a complex diversity of photography ranging from flora, fauna, macro, telephoto and wide-angle shots, Zach brings the Elkhorns to life.
By John Cody. PRIZE: $50 REI Gift Card. With impressive photography, John makes the ordinary park that many might drive past come to life. Several photos make the park appear extraordinary, including this shot of a sea otter which are making a comeback in the Monterey Bay area.
By Michael Sawiel. PRIZE: $25 REI Gift Card. Submission was selected for a Trip Report that touches on all the aspects of an arduous adventure while remaining concise and free of necessary editorial modifications. Photography is rich, informative, varied and gives a deep sense of place.
By Heron Marychild. Submission was selected because it sheds light on one of Oregon's iconic wilderness preserves through great photography of its rich wildlife. Fisher Butte Unit was also selected because it does not stand alone as a submission on Outdoor Project but is also a critical closing chapter in documenting the entire Fern Ridge wildlife complex.
