Far and away Waldo Lake's most popular campground, North Waldo Campground is located on the drier northeastern reaches of the lake where the mosquitos are less intense.*  What makes North Waldo so special is the direct access to the lake's shallow northern shore.  Here, clear waters and inlets form ideal swimming holes, and rocky little islands are perfect for an afternoon's exploration in your kayak.

Set in a mossy forest of mountain hemlock, most of the sites are quite spacious, there are numerous 'multi-family' or double sites, and the composting vault toilets of the campground are quite new and well maintained.  The campground's amphitheater is also in the running for most picturesque, and it is worthy of any wedding or special occasion.  From the campsites themselves, it is only a short walk to the shore and boat ramp/dock.  You will also find the 23-mile Waldo Lake Loop Trail, which is very popular amongst mountain bikers.  This trail leads to Rigdon Lakes, the headwaters for the North and Middle Forks of the Willamette River, and also branches off to nearby Waldo Mountain.

Should North Waldo Campground be full, don't be afraid to venture south to Islet Campground, which is equally dry, 'less' buggy, and certainly worthy of an overnight stay.

* When it comes to Waldo Lake, 'less' is a relative term.  We advise not attempting to visit until late July, and if you can hold off until August, so much the better.

Note:  North Waldo Campground is open June 27 through September 29.
