Located in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, Driftwood II Campground is popular among off-highway vehicles (OHV) riders who want quick and easy access to the sand dunes. Set up more like a large parking lot, the campground isn’t the best option for people in tents. The Lagoon Campground, located just a mile up the road, might be a better choice for those looking for more privacy and greenery.
From the campground there is access the Chief Tsiltcoos Trail, which is a nice easy loop through the coastal forest and a good spot to watch for birds. Other hiking trails, fishing, and recreation spots can be found along the Siltcoos Access Road. At the end of the road is the beach access parking area with miles of sandy beach to explore. Wildlife watching is a popular activity in the area; keep an eye out for a variety of birds, river otters, seals, and maybe even whales.
The campground includes 67 sites, most of which include a picnic table and fire ring, but not all. The 10 pull-through RV sites, located in the south loop, do not have any amenities. Restrooms and potable water can be found in the center of the campground. A shower house is located on the west side with its own short-term parking area. Showers require tokens that can be purchased onsite.
