While Blue Springs Park in High Springs, Florida, is one of many springs named "Blue," it is certainly one of a kind. This pristine first magnitude spring is known for its crystal clear water, beautiful vegetation, and unique elevated boardwalk. The surrounding park is privately owned, family oriented, and full of various amenities to make a visit to Blue Springs enjoyable for everyone.
The spring begins at a circular boil complete with a sandy beach entry and jumping platform. Tubers and swimmers alike enjoy peering through the crystal clear water at the depths below and are often treated to the sight of dozens of freshwater turtles swimming below them. Paddlers are able to explore as well, with a variety of options: The park concessionaire rents out canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards.
Adventurous swimmers may venture down the spring run, which, due to the strong current created by the spring's flow, is an quick trip down but hard work returning. The stunning views are worth the effort, however, as the run is home to healthy aquatic vegetation, dramatic rock formations, and a stunning color change at the point where the river meets the spring run. For those wishing to stay dry, an elevated boardwalk follows the run all the way out to the river, ending at a viewing deck outfitted with benches that allow for comfortable sightseeing.
While the main attraction is Blue Spring and it's famous jumping platform, that is not the only spring on park property. There are four smaller springs as well: three available for viewing and one with water access. Surrounded these stunning water features is the park campground, which offers primitive tent sites, RV sites, as well as water and electric hookups. A bath house is available for campers as well as day use visitors. Dogs are not allowed on property.
