Fort Flagler State Park Campground

Set on the northern tip of Marrowstone Island and overlooking Admiralty Inlet, Port Townsend Bay, and Kilisut Harbor, Fort Flagler State Park is a beautiful choice for overnight accommodation. If staying in one of the fort's restored military accommodations isn't appealing, there are plenty of camping options for visitors with RVs, trailers, or tents. The campground facilities in Fort Flagler are distributed throughout the park: there is a a lower pair of loops that are close to the Port Townsend Bay, an upper loop that is on the bluff overlooking Kilisut Harbor, and two group camps that are located toward the center of the park.

The upper campground has 47 sites without hookups that are accessible by vehicles and two hiker/biker sites. Generally, the upper campground sites enjoy more shelter and privacy thanks to the tree cover and understory, and the views from the bluff are tremendous. The lower campground may be better suited to RVs and trailers, though tents are welcome as well. There are 55 full hookup sites in the lower campground in addition to 12 standard sites without hookups. The sites in the lower campground tend to be more exposed to the elements and lack the privacy and separation of the upper campground sites. Guests in the lower campground will be just steps away from the beach, however. Both the upper and lower camping areas have centrally located restrooms with showers.

Two group camps are excellent options for large parties: the Scout Camp can accommodate 40 people and is only open for tents; Wagon Wheel Camp accommodates up to 100 people and takes tents and RVs (no hookups). Both camps have vault toilets and covered picnic shelters.

Note that, while Fort Flagler is open year round, the upper campground closes from the end of September through the beginning of May. The lower campground, day use areas, vacation houses, and group camps are available through the winter, however. All sites are available for reservation, and while this area may not receive the same overnight traffic that visits the campgrounds at Fort Worden State Park, you won't regret reserving your site in advance.
