The Desportes Island Nature Trail is a 2.3 mile path inside the State Park surrounded by Lake Wateree.

Though marked as a loop trail, the path leaves and follows a single route until reaching a fork, both branches lead to two small loops beneath the canopy of the forest area. Each trail leads to the water's edge at the lakeside, winding amongst the lakeside low country wooded area.

The Nature Trail is a single facet of the state park, which also includes day use areas, campgrounds, playgrounds and boat ramps.

Water and bathrooms are available in the public areas near the trailhead. The Nature Trail is subject to park rules and entrance fees, which can be found at the Lake Wateree State Park website.
