Lafayette Place Campground is centrally located in Franconia Notch State Park with trails leading to various attractions in the White Mountains. Camping is available for tents or very small pop-ups only. Seven sites are available as first-come, first-served only, while 88 others are available by reservation only. There is one group camping site available for organized groups. Reservations must be made.
The sites are mostly level and feature a gravel surface. Each site has a picnic table and open fireplace. No more than two tents are allowed at any site, except the group camping area. Sites are limited to two adults and four dependents under the age of 18. Additional adults sharing a site will be subject to a $10 fee per person per night. Three ADA-accessible sites are available by reservation only. While camping is allowed year round at Lafayette Place, reservations and full services are only available from late May through early October.
Lafayette Place is a hub for out-of-towners in the Whites. The Franconia Notch Recreation Path and the Pemi Trail both transect the campground, and the Lonesome Lake Trail begins at its western edge. Sites get booked out well in advance, so be sure to plan your visit ahead of time.
The sites are lightly wooded, but not very secluded. Some sit along the banks of the upper Pemigewassett River. Restrooms feature flush toilets and running water. There are two coin-operated showering facilities. Several water pumps are available throughout the campground, and dishwashing stations can be found at the restrooms. The Lafayette Place Lodge hosts a registration station and a small camping supply store. Refreshments are also available.
A small picnic area is available just outside of the campground on the east side of the Pemigewassett River. Parking and day use at these facilities is free.
