Moro Campground is a large campground sitting on a cliff overlooking the ocean on the north end of Laguna Beach and is a part of the larger network of trails and beach access of Crystal Cove State Park. However for this location, you'll be paying accordingly. With a nightly site fee of $55, the campground was developed to fit in all kinds of travelers, so all sites will have pads large enough to support RVs up to 38 feet in length, with little privacy or space between neighboring sites.
Laid out in multiple rows in ascending terraces overlooking the Pacific Ocean, most sites will have views of western sunsets, and visitors can find a short path leading to benches and lookout points at the area of the campground nearest the clifftop overlooking the beach.
Each site has water and power hookups, and modern facilities with numerous showers and bathrooms in several centrally-located buildings. Showers run on a token system with 2 minutes of water for $1. Each site has a table, but no fire rings since the backcountry surrounding the campground are at high fire risk.
Pets are allowed inside the campground, however are not allowed on any beaches or trails. Moro Campground shares a state park entrance gate, which is locked at 10 pm nightly.
One major benefit to the campground is the immediate access to Crystal Cove's extensive network of hiking trails - such as El Moro Ridge Loop - which climb high into the hills behind the campground and descend to the beach. Otherwise, campers can jump in their car for a quick drive down to the Michael & Tricia Berns Environmental Study Loop interpretive path and parking lot, from where a short walk through a tunnel beneath Pacific Coast Highway leads right onto the beach.
With the downside of being surrounded by luxury properties and a population-dense area of Southern California, Moro Campground is still able to offer visitors the opportunity to experience some of the last spacious undeveloped areas in this part of the state.
