Located on the banks of the Smith River, Jedediah Smith Campground may be the most picturesque of the Redwood National and State Park campgrounds. The campground offers 106 sites nestled among old-growth coast redwoods, about a dozen of which lie adjacent to the Smith River.

Connecting to some of the top hiking trails in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, the campground is a nice home base for exploring surrounding groves. In addition to trails within the campground itself, the Hiouchi Trail can be reached from the campground via a summer footbridge that crosses the Smith River. Head east on the Hiouchi Trail to access Stout Grove; head west to connect with the Hatton Trail and access to Simpson-Reed, Peterson Memorial and Hatton Loop Trails.

In addition to hiking, boating and fishing are popular activities along the nationally designated Wild and Scenic Smith River. The campground maintains a winter boat launch, although lightweight boats can be carried to the river's edge at anytime of year.

Reservations at Jedediah Smith Campground are strongly recommended between Memorial and Labor Day. The rest of the year campers should have little difficulty obtaining a site on a first-come, first-served basis.
