Veteran's Memorial Park Campground is a large first come, first serve campground inside a spacious park just above downtown Monterey.
With 30 sites set beneath trees that provide shade, campers can make their site selection with each space having a picnic bench and fire pit. Water spigots are located throughout the campground and bathroom facilities include free showers (Showers are available for $4 for non campers). Rental lockers are also available for campers.
The campground also has a hiker biker site that tends to be a busy spot amongst those riding down the Pacific Coast.
Veteran's Memorial Park itself features spacious grounds with lawn areas, playgrounds, basketball court, and hiking trails that extend beyond the park and into the surrounding parklands. While the uphill location may be more than a walk from the downtown and old town areas, the park is central and it's only a few minute drive to most popular locations in Monterey.
No reservations are accepted - all sites operate strictly on a first come, first serve basis. Payment can be made at a self-pay kiosk at the campground's entrance. Owing to its location and that it accommodates campers from cyclists to trailers and mid-sized RV's, Veteran's Memorial Park Campground has a tendency to fill up during Summer weekends.
