The Palo Verde trail is located in Tonto National Forest along the western edge of Bartlett Lake.  There is a day use fee so be sure to purchase at area kiosks.  The trail begins at Rattlesnake Cove parking area.  From the east end of the lot, follow the stair down toward the beach.  The trail leaves the walkway at a sharp left.

There is no trail junctions through this route.  The trail follows the shoreline about 100 feet above Bartlett Lake.  The trail is easy to follow and has many up and down sections with several dry washes to cross.  The trail has great views of the mountains over the lake.  The down side is Bartlett Lake is open to motorized watercraft.  Beside the sound of power boats, some play loud music from their boat.  All this considered, it is still a great hike becasue for the views.

The trail ends at SB Cove Swimming area.  This are area is also crowded with trailer campers and motor homes.  There is toilets at both ends of the trail.  Once the trail ends at the paved road and gate, turn back and follow the trail the way you came from Rattlesnake Cove.
