Moss Glen Falls is one of Vermont's most visited waterfalls. Easily linked with other adventures nearby, a short walk on a boardwalk over marshy ground leads to the riverbed, where hikers may choose to ascend the steep, rooty trail or walk up the creek to the base of the falls. The latter option will definitely get your feet wet, but during the summer it will be a welcome respite from the heat and offers the closest views of the falls.
The falls consist of three tiers, the bottom being the tallest at around 75 feet. Immediately above, a narrow drop of about 33 feet plunges into a short pool. A short distance upstream is a final 12-foot waterfall.
Those continuing up and around on dry land will be rewarded with various overlooks of the falls, as well as views into the upper tiers. Bearing right at the top of the first steep rise will offer a great view, and those willing to scramble a bit will find a steep descent to the side of the main tier of the falls. Be careful, as the ground erodes easily on the steep slope.
Continuing further up the hill will reveal glimpses into the narrow canyon between the main tier and one above. Unfortunately, there are no clear views of the 33-foot falls. The final tier at the top is clearly visible from the canyon rim.
