Tucked away in the valley between the foothills and the flanks of Mount Mansfield itself, Casey's Hill is part of a public land easement that recognizes the value of outdoor recreation. The hill is primarily used for sledding and features several aspects with varying degrees of steepness. The hill can be challenging for younger users because the descent from the parking lot to the base of the hill is quite steep and the gentler slopes are accessed by crossing below the steeper hill. Despite this, Casey's Hill is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike, with spectacular views of Mount Mansfield providing a backdrop to family fun.

From the parking area, a steep slope descends about 15 feet to the base of the main feature. The more-than 50-foot hill is steepest on northwest aspect, and it becomes more gradual as you move to the south and east. There is over 300 feet of runout before reaching the road, including a sharp uphill rise, so there is no concern about shooting into the road. The distance to the road only increases as you approach the mellower slopes.

On weekends, especially sunny ones, Casey's Hill can be quite popular. Kids often build small jumps or banked turns, so be sure to scout your route before taking the plunge. If there is a downfall to the significant snowfall totals common in this region, it's that the the first visitors will need to take a few runs to pack down the snow before they can really enjoy the full length of the hill.

It's hard to find a more beautiful place to sled. Mount Mansfield sits just behind Casey's Hill, and the Maple Ridge Trail and Sunset Ridge Trail are two of its most noticeable approaches due to the open snowfields leading toward the summit.
