With fishing and swimming opportunities and plenty of natural beauty, Walton Lake (actually a reservoir) is certainly a stereotypical family outdoor destination.  As the most visited destination within the Ochoco Mountains, this campground fills up quickly during the summer months, so be sure to make reservations early.  With 29 sites in total, the campground essentially surrounds the lake.  To get as much breathing room as possible, book one of the six walk-in tent sites on the lake’s northern shore; they are certainly the campground’s best options.  Note that even though the campground is well-used, it doesn’t provide potable water, so be sure to bring your own.
