Located between Newport and Yaquina Head, and stretching for nearly 4 miles, Agate Beach is one of Oregon's broadest and most popular sandy beaches.

Agate Beach was in the news in June of 2012 when a piece of a floating dock from Japan's March 2011 tsunami journeyed 5,000 miles and washed up onshore.  The dock was actually one of four similar pieces of debris that drifted from the port town of Misawa, Japan.  One of the docks washed up on a nearby island, and the other two have not been found.  The rogue dock at Agate Beach was removed in August of 2012 to protect Oregon's coast from potentially invasive species hosted by the 165-ton block of concrete, which included a tiny species of crab, seaweed, algae, and starfish, all native to Japan.
