John Rock is among the many hikes and adventures you don't want to miss if you find yourself in the Pisgah National Forest. Take a walk under dense hemlocks that offer shade on this hiking trail. John Rock is abundant with wildflowers and offers backcountry campsites throughout.

Start the trail behind the fish hatchery or on the opposite side. On the far side away from the fish hatchery, the trail begins on Cat Gap Loop and splits into the John Rock Trail. You have the option to continue for a longer loop.

The rock face and best vista point here is a little difficult to spot for first-timers. Soon after a slickrock face, you will see small trails to your right, which will lead you to the rock face. The view offers an outstanding panoramic views of Looking Glass Rock and Pisgah National Forest.
