This gem of a park is located just outside of Ithaca, New York, and like many of the parks in the area, it is characterized by an incredible gorge and numerous waterfalls. The park encompasses 1,110 acres, most of which surrounds Enfield Glen, which looks, and sounds, like it belongs in a fairytale.

There are two main entrances to the park. The lower entrance provides access to a large parking area, a bathhouse, a life-guarded swimming hole, a playground, and trailheads for the 2.12-mile gorge trail and 2.09-mile rim trail. There is also a campground near the lower entrance with 70 campsites and 14 camping cabins. The upper entrance provides easy access to the top of the gorge, including the 115-foot Lucifer Falls, and a beautifully-crafted trail complete with stone walls, steps, and bridges. Both entrances provide access to the long-distance Finger Lakes Trail, which skirts the southern edge of the park.

Robert Treman State Park is crowded on most summer days, but you will find that most visitors are lugging coolers and picnic baskets to the base of the Lower Falls, where they will spend the day relaxing next to the falls and swimming in the always-chilly Enfield Creek. To ditch the crowds, all you have to do is hop on a trail. The Gorge Trail (2.12 miles one way) meanders along the stream, passing 12 waterfalls and stunning rock formations while slowly gaining elevation. It can be combined with the Rim Trail for a 4.3-mile loop. Total elevation gain is about 500 feet, but there are lots of ups and downs and a very steep set of stairs. If you begin your hike at the lower entrance, you will have the chance to cool off below the Lower Falls before heading back to your car.
