Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park

Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park is a park and visitor center based around the oldest non-Native settlement in Southern Nevada. Based around a creek flowing from a spring - the only constant water source in the area - the settlement was built on an historically well-traveled trading route. In 1855, Mormon missionaries constructed an adobe fort that remained the center of area life.

Having been enveloped by the development of Las Vegas, the site remains an oasis in the desert, although today it offers a space to walk around, sit on benches near a creek and pond, and escape the urban storm that lies just outside of its fence. A recreation of the adobe fort remains, along with other pieces that recall the early settler life like an outdoor garden. A museum offers displays, a short film, and air conditioning along with a small gift shop.  On the fort grounds is a building with interpretive signs showing images and displays of the past along with old tools and pieces of the original buildings. The fort itself is Nevada's oldest building. 

The park is located at 500 E. Washington Ave, Las Vegas. Open hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 8 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., and admission is $3 per person. Additional information can be found at the park's website, or by calling 702.486.3511.
