The Lava Tree Molds are an interesting and easy to visit feature within Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. The tree molds were created when a heavy lava flow settled around the trees. The lava hardened around the trees, while the heat and intensity set the trees afire, leaving an empty cast.

There are about a dozen examples of tree molds located here, along with an interpretive sign explaining the process. Small fences have been put up around the larger tree molds, which make finding the molds pretty easy.

Most molds are a short walk from the single parking spot. While the area is small, it is a pretty interesting example and opportunity to see the effects of the volcanic eruption.

There are no amenities of any kind located. The Lava Tree Molds are a part of the National Park in an area with the Kipukapuaulu Trail.
