Ali'i Saltwater Pool

Ali'i Saltwater Swimming Pool is a unique bathing experience in the Kona area on the Big Island.

Amongst the must-see spots on the Big Island, the saltwater pool - sometimes called Rivi's Saltwater Pool - is a stone pool constructed just above the high tide line. During high tide and larger swells, waves crash over the far end of the pool, flushing out the water. The water inside the pool is calm, making this a popular spot for families with children of swimming ability.

A dry stone area beside the pool provides an area for watching the waves, as well as the surfers and boogey boarders who often leap from the edge of the pool to swim out to the nearby surf.

Set along the western side of the island, Ali'i Pool can get pretty bustling around sunset, when colored skies reflect on the pool's surface, and the surrounding palm trees create a picturesque environment.

While this is a well-known "secret" spot, it can be a challenge to find parking. The easiest place to park is on the shoulder across the street from the entrance to the gravel path. A lone "Ocean Access" sign and outdoor shower are the only markers of the path to the pool. The path can be found between the Aston Kona By The Sea Hotel and the Kona Isle Condominiums.

The pool is free and open to the public. Aside from the street shower, there are no amenities. While the pool is generally safe, always exercise caution when tides are large enough to breach the outer wall.
