Lake Rabun Beach Campground

Quietly nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in the Chattahoochee National Forest of northern Georgia and alongside beautiful Lake Rabun, you will find Lake Rabun Beach Recreation Area. This developed recreation area contains 80 campsites and offers many amenities to campers. The campground is organized into two loops, where each loop has a camp host and contains flushing restrooms complete with facilities for hot showers. Twenty-one of the campsites along camping loop 2 offer electric hookups and water for full-service RV camping. Loop two also offers a group camping area comprised of five campsites.

The highlight of the area is, of course, Lake Rabun, which lies directly across the road from the camping loop one entrance, but it can also be accessed via a trail to/from camping loop two. There is a small, sandy beach area for swimming and a bathhouse, although there is no lifeguard on duty. The lake is stocked and can be fished for bass, bream, perch, trout, and catfish. The swim area also has eight picnic tables for visitors to use and enjoy. The recreation area has a boat ramp, courtesy dock, and fishing deck. There is a large paved parking lot that is open year round, which can accommodate vehicles with boat trailers.

Each campsite includes a gravel pad, grill, picnic table, and lantern post. Firewood can be purchased at the campground from the camp hosts. Camping is usually open between early April and late October with a 14-day maximum stay.

At the back of camping loop two, you can access the 1.6-mile trail to visit Angel Falls. Other popular hiking trails in the area include the trail system at Tallulah Gorge State Park, and Panther Creek Falls Trail.

All in all, this is a nice, quiet, peaceful campsite next to a beautiful lake. The campground is rarely full, especially the tent sites along camping loop one. The camp area is a little out of the way, accessed via a narrow winding road around the lake, and not near any stores. The area has been around for a while, and some may say the facilities are a little outdated. Even so, this seems a small price to pay to quietly get away from it all for a while in such a beautiful setting.
