West Valley Warm Springs

West Valley Warm Springs lies just south of West Valley Reservoir and makes a great backcountry camp on the western slope of the Warner Mountains of northeastern California.

Set in an area rich with fresh water springs, West Valley Warm Springs are two small pools of water bubbling up to the surface at about 85 degrees. The upper of the pools is slightly cooler and with less flow, while the lower has more water surfacing into it and at a little warmer temperature. Though neither spot is deep enough to sit comfortably in, they make up more of a nice spot to reach into to cool off on a hot day or to sit beside.

Volcanic stone gathered nearby has been used to dam up the flow and create the small pools from which the water flows into the lush grassy meadows that dot the area.

A fire pit sitting beside a clearing underneath a pine canopy marks the spot of past campers, and aside from the piles left by the cattle that graze throughout the area, it's an ideal spot to camp.

For those looking for more of a hot soaking experience, West Valley Hot Springs on the east bank of the reservoir may be a more appealing option.
