River Park Campground

River Park Campground is operated by the City of Lompoc Parks Department. The river it is named for is the Santa Ynez which lies down a slope behind the campground, however dense brush prevents campers from actually being able to see the seasonal flow of the river.

The campground contains 35 total sites which operate on a first come, first serve basis. Each site has a space for a medium sized RV and has full hookups along with picnic benches and fire rings. Sites tend to lie immediately adjacent to one another with no trees, so RV campers should not expect any space or distance from their neighbors.

On the plus side, the entrance to the spacious River Park is at the far end of the campground. This park contains a small fishing pond, lots of spacious lawn area beneath trees, horseshoe pits, a playground, a short fitness trail, and a public dump station. However the campground does have a few negatives. The entire campground is served by one small bathroom building. Overhead high tension power lines create a constant buzzing sound. If your visit is during a time when contractors are in town working on a project, you may find the campground at capacity.

There are a couple camp hosts with firewood available for sale. And the higher numbered sites further into the campground aren't as affected by the power lines. There are a few hiker/biker tent sites located beside the pay station at the camp's entrance, and these sites are nicer in that they are away from the line of RVs packed together in the main camping area.

Overall, this campground is there if you need a spot to stay for the night or are looking for something central to the city of Lompoc, however potential visitors should be aware that the campground has no frills and doesn't have the greatest atmosphere if you're looking to get away from it all for a weekend.
