Hermiston Butte is a landmark in the area, offering an elevated perspective to take in the views of the otherwise generally flat region.

The hike starts at Butte Park, a popular playground area with spacious lawns. Following a well marked wide gravel trail, the walk wraps around the back of the butte as it traces a gradual incline. Views of the surrounding landscape open up as you gain in elevation. With only 140' elevation difference between the bottom of the path and the top, the butte marks one of the only exceptions to the flat plateau landscape that Hermiston sits on. From the top, panoramic views abound, although there is nothing at the top itself - no bench, no shade. It's a quick walk, then walkers can turn around and retrace their route down or opt to veer off onto one of the other small paths in the area.

Bathrooms and water are located at Butte Park.
