South Falls

South Falls is the crown jewel of Silver Falls State Park. This 177ft waterfall is the second tallest in the park, but is one of the most spectacular and receives the most visitors. It is easily accessible via a short stroll. Visitors can also walk behind the waterfall, an incredible experience!

Begin by parking in one of the large lots at the South Falls Day Use Area. In this area you’ll find everything including spacious lawns, picnic shelters and tables, and the lovely South Fork of Silver Creek (including a swimming area). Begin by following the wide, paved path toward the waterfall. You’ll walk past the South Falls Lodge and Nature Store before arriving at the South Falls viewpoint.

The viewpoint offers a great glimpse down to the waterfall and pool. I’d also strongly recommend hiking down to the waterfall for even better views. Follow the Canyon Trail as it descends toward the fall and eventually goes behind the waterfall. You can cross the picturesque footbridge just downstream from the fall to make a short loop and head back up to the parking lot, or you can continue on the Canyon Trail to see the park’s other waterfalls and hike the Trail of Ten Falls.
