OVERVIEW

The Towsley Canyon Trail Loop is a 5.5-mile hike in the Santa Clarita Valley that showcases scenic views, diverse terrain, and the rugged beauty of the Santa Susana Mountains. Just off the Golden State Freeway in Santa Clarita and about a 30-minute drive from Los Angeles, this trail offers a convenient escape into nature. DESCRIPTION
Start your hike from the parking lot near Interstate 5. This guide describes the clockwise route, which begins with a shaded path winding through oak woodlands and following Towsley Creek. After recent rains, you may spot flowing water along the creek bed.  As you ascend, the trail opens up to sweeping views of the surrounding canyons and valleys. The route’s highlight is a stretch that passes through Towsley Gorge, where fascinating geological features like the Towsley oil seep reveal the region's rich tectonic history.

Upon reaching the ridge, you’ll be greeted by panoramic views of the Santa Clarita Valley, with clear days offering glimpses of the distant San Gabriel Mountains. The descent provides a gradual return to the canyon, completing the loop back to the parking area.
