The Beatty Overlook Loop is a route made up of dirt roads and single track tracing the rocky landscape of the lower slope of Beatty Mountain.
Easily accessible, the route leaves the gravel parking area and follows a series of dirt roads and trails that weave and climb through the sloped landscape, passing the remnants of old mines and homesteads, and reaching a perch a little over 250' in elevation gain that looks down on the town.
There are no signs or trail markers along this path, so hikers should come equipped with some type of navigation aid. It is possible, however, to use this loop trail as a jumping off point to explore the landscape on one of the foot trails or former gravel roads that crosses the path.
As walkers progress, dirt roads turn to rough double tracks, which then turn to solitary single track. One area of interest is the above ground stream which feeds into the Amargosa River, the area's waterway that runs mostly beneath the surface of the ground.
In all, the trail has about 400 feet of total elevation gain spread across its 1.6 mile length. While that doesn't seem too difficult on its own, this path follows a typically hot landscape with no shade, and runs through areas of soft sand, slippery rock, and steep washes and slopes. Hikers should arrive prepared for a more difficult route than one would expect.
There are no signs, no shade, and no amenities located along the path. However a market with lots of trail snacks and drinks, a full service restaurant, and a hotel are located directly across the street from the parking lot for a post-hike stop. The trail contains mediocre cel reception, and hikers should keep an eye out for the donkey population that wanders around here.
