The Old Growth Cedar Trail is a lovely stroll along a picturesque boardwalk that leads to Oregon’s largest Cedar tree. The trailhead is located directly off Highway 101 where there is a small parking lot just before the town of Rockaway Beach to the north.

The boardwalk begins from the parking lot and is easily accessible for anyone to enjoy. The hike leads through a wetland area, with Skunk Cabbage, Salmonberry and Deer Fern easy to spot from trail.

The boardwalk then comes to a junction, with a left turn leading to a viewing platform and picnic table area. Keep right to continue to the “Big Cedar.”

The terrain changes quickly to beautiful old growth forest and you’ll soon find yourself gazing up at one of the largest Western Red Cedars in North America. This impressive cedar is estimated to be 800-1200 years old, has a trunk almost 50 feet in circumference, and stands 154 feet tall.

Once you’ve taken in the massive old growth tree, return the way you came following the boardwalk back to the parking lot.
