Seal Beach Municipal Pier and beach area are the main attraction in the downtown area of this small community.
The shoreline here covers a small stretch of sand between Long Beach and Sunset Beach, and since Highway 1 passes through the town several blocks away, Seal Beach tends to keep a quiet and more relaxed feel to it than some of the surrounding ocean beaches.
The area contains a grassy park, the municipal pier (which is amongst the longest wooden piers in California), a large strip of sandy beach fronting water that is popular with surfers, sandy volleyball courts, and a playground area. Locals can often be seen fishing from the sides of the wooden pier, and during the summer months, the sand is full of people. Its recessed location offers views of nearby Signal Hill and clean views of Catalina Island on clear days.
There is a police and lifeguard station located at the park, to maintain the area for safety. Seal Beach's retail and restaurant filled Main Street ends at the pier, giving beach goers a chance to take a walk and visit the shops and eateries which begin immediately across the street from the beach park.
Seal Beach Municipal Pier and beach contain all the necessary amenities, and is generally a safe and clean ocean beach at the border of Long Beach and Orange County.
Parking is available in the large paid lot which can be accessed on the north side of the park. Additionally there is street parking in the surrounding communities.
The beach is open daily from 4:30am to 10pm.
