River Island State Park sits along a calm bend in the Colorado River slightly downriver from most of the Lake Havasu park areas.

River Island offers a generally calm alternative to the busier Havasu area campgrounds and parks. With most of its space dedicated to its 37 site campground, most of the park's day use areas and features are spread between the riverside beach area and boat ramp and several shaded areas near the entrance including shaded picnic tables, a fenced in pet exercise area, and a calm cactus garden with a few benches.

The busiest area of the park is the boat ramp that offers quick access to the Colorado River. Additionally, the Wedge Hill Trail is a 1 mile out and back hiking area that leads to a couple elevated views of the river and the park.

In all, the park is modest and quiet, which may be its best feature.

Visitors are subject to park rules and entry fees, which are $10 per vehicle of $3 per walk in/cyclist.

Day use hours are 7am to 10pm. There is a seasonal snack stand available, however park visitors have access to the Buckskin Mountain State Park Visitor Center a couple miles away which has more food options.
