The 1.5 mile round trip hike from Sawyer Park to Sawyer Uplands Park is a scenic option for anyone looking to get out and enjoy the beauty of the Deschutes River area. The hike is relatively easy but does have a couple hundred feet of elevation gain.

You’ll begin by parking at Sawyer Park, off O.B. Riley Road. This lovely park is situated alongside the Deschutes River and features some ancient basalt lava flow rock.

You’ll cross the river via footbridge, then continue heading west toward the Deschutes River Trail. Follow the markers that say “to Sawyer Uplands Park.”

Once on this trail you’ll gain a bit of elevation as you head toward the Uplands. As you climb you’ll have fantastic views down to the river and overlooking Bend. There is one particularity nice viewpoint with a bench.

Finally the trail arrives at Sawyer Uplands Park. This small park has a paved loop trail, some picnic areas and a playground.

After walking the paved loop you will retrace your steps back down to Sawyer Park to finish the hike.
