Fumee Creek Roadside Park

Fumee Creek Roadside Park is located about five miles east of Iron Mountain, Michigan, just outside of the town of Quinnesec. The 2.4-acre park is one of dozens of parks managed by the Michigan Department of Transportation. The park is on the north side of U.S. Highway 2 and features Fumee Falls, a three-tier waterfall that has a drop of about 25 feet.

Access to the waterfall is easy, in fact the falls can be seen from the highway. There is a short path that leads to a foot bridge over Fumee Creek. Fumee Creek flows south from Fumee Lake into the Menominee River. The Menominee River forms a portion of the Wisconsin/Michigan border as it flows into Lake Michigan. There are nice views of the waterfall from the bridge. Beyond the bridge the path leads to the base of the falls; here there is a flight of stairs that lead to the top of the main drop of the waterfall. The stairway has about 50 steps; at the top there is a viewing platform. Fumee Falls can have low water flow during dry periods.

In addition to Fumee Falls, this park has a couple of picnic tables, a grill, and vault toilets. Fumee Creek Roadside Park is handicap accessible.  There is also a Michigan historical marker with information about the Menominee Iron Range and its impact on the region located in the park.

This charming waterfall is worth a stop if your travels take you to the Iron Mountain area.
